Product Description

We love having it all.  The Reynolds Element Clincher Disc wheel is one of many enlightened designs from Reynolds that gives you the chance to equip your time trial or tri bike with a disc wheel without having to be able to afford the mechanic to come along with it.

The fact that the Element Clincher is basically as easy to service as your bomb proof training wheels belies the fact that you are getting a disc wheel that has been raced even at the Tour de France. Since the disc is perfectly flat, it will fit all frames on the market; compatibility will not be an issue. Reynolds designed it like that because their tests showed no quantifiable advantage to going with a lensed shape. What they focused on instead was designing the best riding disc wheel they could conceive. Most time trials, even most bike sections of triathlons, are going to have a certain technical nature to the course. Out-and-backs are rare, and let’s face it, boring. A great time trial has climbs and descents and corners, lots of corners. The Reynolds Element Clincher corners extremely well with no flex, no hint of give. Made from one large piece of high modulus carbon with a solid super light foam interior, the Element Disc is strong, light and pretty quiet on the road. That means that even when you need to pull this up an extended hill mid race, you won’t feel like you have lead in your pants.

People often forget just how important it is that you can brake properly when you are riding a disc. A race can be won or lost over a technical course if you have some shoddy braking at the back. Knowing that, Reynolds has made sure to lay up their Element carbon rim with their CR6 technology. CR6 stands for Carbon Rim 6, which is the solution Reynolds has found to get the perfect mix of durability, strength and stiffness while still remaining immaculately light. The choice of materials, strategically positioned according to the requirements of the rim, and then molded using their special process call Inert Gas Compaction (IGC), makes it possible to brake with this Disc wheel nearly as well as you can with you alu rims.

The wheel ships with the Reynolds Cryo-Blue Power Brake Pads, which you must use if you don’t want to void the warranty. And really, there is no reason not to use them, since they have been designed specifically for Reynolds rims and are essential to the reliable, smooth braking that you will immediately notice and love. Facilitating your life while you are being your own pre-race mechanic, Reynolds has also designed the Element to have a valve stem cup that accommodates a standard pump head without an adapter.

Reynolds recognizes that when you shell out real money for a pair of dream wheels, you’re going to want to have some extra protection. So in addition to the limited warranty that comes with the purchase, they have also developed a program by which you can buy yourself some extra piece of mind; it might just save your mind if you happen to total your disc by over-cooking a corner on a descent. Called the Reynolds Assurance Program (RAP), it is wheel insurance that you can purchase on the Reynolds website within 30 days of purchasing your wheels. It provides two years of coverage above and beyond the regular warranty and the crash replacement program, offering a no-questions-asked replacement. RAP costs $250 for this wheel.

The clincher version of this wheel weighs 1340 grams, so it won’t be a struggle to get it up to speed or use on climbs. The Reynolds Element Clincher Disc ships with a wheel bag and is compatible with Campagnolo 9/10/11 speed or Shimano/SRAM. Give yourself a leg up on the competition with the Reynolds Element Clincher Disc wheel.
